Amazon Conservation
By brett
In the forests of the Amazon, traditional tribes are taking a cue from the Indians. Victims of countless acts of bio-piracy themselves, the tribal stewards of the lush amazonian forest (ripe for pharmaceutical plundering) are taking a high tech approach.
In collaboration with the Amazon Conservation Trust, these tribes are mapping their ancestral territory with satellite GPS systems. By identifying sensitive plant life, cultural artificacts and animals, the Amazonian natives are using an Open Source approach to preserve their culture: open up, share your knowledge.
From the depths of these ancient forests, we'll move into the chaos of Sao Paulo and Rio to examine Brazil - the emerging Open Source Nation.
