Sued Generation
Since 2002, 18,000 individuals and families have beeen sued by the Recording Industry Association of America - a trade lobby group that represents the major record labels.
Among these families is David Greubel - a texan father being charged with copyright infringment for the alleged downloading of music by his daughter Elisa.
After her father received the charges, Elisa wrote to the record label of one of her favourite artists, Avril Lavigne, who it is alleged Elisa "stole". After receiving the letter, Lavigne's record label head, Terry McBride of Nettwerk records, offered to pay all the court fees of David Greubel.
Most of these cases never go to court - the RIAA threatens families to either settle for several thousand dollars, or face the might of their lawyers. Greubel, and a small handful of other cases, are those who are fighting back.
