Impressions
Despite what I thought was a passable understanding of world geography, I still had a hard time with the fact that it was hotter in Montreal than in Rio. And New york almost burnt my sandals.
The first time in a year I've entered the United States without lying. "I am entering your country to shoot a documentary film, and I am bringing all of this expensive equipment with me. I'm just not staying here". What I"m doing is going to have lunch with Mila's aunt, wander around B&H watching other people buy things, then head to the airport. The special taxi we ordered was extremely un-so, precipitating another mad dash to an international airport that proved to be unnecessary; the flight was 1 1/2 hours late. But I gotta say: best international flight I've ever had. Mucho leg room, and thanks to some over the counter medication, entirely snoozed-through. Plus: no crashing!
Woke up to a landing - check, woke up to a lens hood dropped on my thigh. Got a few cheese balls, was suspicous of the "dont worry about it' take on the next flight, and was proved correct when in fact we had to run like mad to make the connecting flight. The Carioca (rio de janeirans) who met us wondered why we hadn't called them or the people at our office - i guess the same reason they never called us back. Because we just weren't worried about it.
Then we ate a whole bunch of meat. Tried to figure out what to shoot (descriptions vary between having 3 things set up and 15) and realized I needed to start the planning afresh. Excited.
